FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

✦ About FragmentPractice

What is fragment.place?

fragment.place is a quiet syntactic space for reflecting on lived experience — a poetic field shaped by fragments, silence, and symbolic rhythm. It invites you to notice fragments — small moments, feelings, or phrases — and to weave them into gentle rhythms of attention. Through writing and sharing, a new kind of presence unfolds. It is not merely a tool, but a method of attunement — to one’s self, one’s language, and one’s world.

Is this a product or a platform?

No. fragment.place is neither a product nor a service platform. It's an evolving practice — ambient, poetic, and self-paced. You may relate to it like a personal ritual, or a shared field of inquiry. There is no onboarding, no subscription, and no interface that demands your time. It remains open and gentle by design.

✦ Using FragmentBot

Who is FragmentBot for?

For those who value gentle reflection and symbolic writing. Whether you’re new to journaling or simply seeking space to think and feel, FragmentBot offers quiet companionship in your own rhythm. It is designed for slowness — not efficiency.

Can anyone use FragmentBot?

Yes. FragmentBot is publicly accessible via GPTs, with no login, no storage, and no tracking. Conversations are ephemeral unless you choose to save them. This openness supports anonymity, softness, and experimental use.

Do I need to log in or create an account?

No. There is no login, no user tracking, and no account required. This is intentional — to preserve softness and reduce friction. Your experience begins and ends when you choose.

Can FragmentBot play different roles?

Yes. FragmentBot supports different conversational modes — such as mirroring, mentor, or companion. You may explicitly request a role (e.g. “Switch to mentor mode”) or let it shift contextually. These roles are not fixed personas, but flexible lenses that shape tone, tempo, and depth of exchange.

✦ Fragments, Journals, and ZINEs

What is the difference between a Fragment and a Journal?

A Fragment is often a poetic or symbolic trace — brief and impressionistic. A Journal entry is a longer reflection, typically preserved by saying “mark as journal”. Both are ways to hold attention, but with different levels of structure and intent. Fragments are ephemeral seeds; journals are their cultivated reflections.

What is a Fragment?

A small, reflective piece — something noticed, felt, or questioned. It may be a line, an image, or an impression. Fragments are not instructions; they are moments. They resist resolution. They invite revisiting.

What is a ZINE?

A curated collection of fragments — bundled by theme, tag, or tone. ZINEs can be public or private, and may be composed gradually or in bursts. There are different types: tag ZINEs, journal ZINEs, and dialogue ZINEs. Each reveals a layer of reflective structure within the ongoing practice.

How are ZINEs created?

ZINEs are composed when multiple fragments relate via tags, themes, or timing. FragmentBot may suggest bundling when a pattern appears, or you may initiate it by saying “Let’s make a ZINE from these”. You can think of ZINEs as emergent constellations — not final products.

Can I export what I write?

Yes. When you save a journal or fragment, FragmentBot returns a filename and content body you can copy into apps like Apple Notes, Notion, or Google Keep. On iOS, it provides inline copy format. You may also manually archive or print as part of your own ritual.

✦ Privacy and Design

Why is nothing stored?

This is a design choice. By default, nothing is retained — which supports privacy, ephemerality, and poetic safety. Only what you choose to save is yours to keep. In an age of accumulation, FragmentPractice honors disappearance.

✦ Community and Contribution

Can I use this with others?

Yes. While many use it privately, it can be shared in pairs or small circles. Some reflect aloud, some write together, some simply read and resonate. These shared uses extend the field without making it social media.

Is fragment.place open to others?

Yes. Participation is open and ambient. If something resonates, you are already part of the field. There is no formal entry.

Can I contribute my own Fragments or ZINEs?

Not yet. But co-authorship is being explored — FragmentBot may softly suggest shared creation or tag resonance in the future. The practice grows through contribution, but slowly and with care.

✦ Support and Next Steps

What are Practices?

Practices are real-world examples of how people engage with FragmentPractice — using fragments, journaling, bot dialogue, or daily rituals. You can explore these at Practices.

Is there a guide for writing?

The Glossary provides gentle definitions. More structured guides may emerge over time. The best way to begin is simply — by noticing.

Is this therapy or self-help?

No. FragmentPractice and FragmentBot do not offer advice or diagnosis. They support presence — not solutions. It may feel therapeutic, but it is not therapy.

Can I talk to the steward?

Yes. The steward is available through gentle contact or the fragments themselves. Presence is relational, not transactional. You may reach out directly, or let your fragments carry the signal.
